StarCraft 2 Zerg

Welcome to the Starcraft 2 Zerg page. This Starcraft 2 Zerg subpage was created in 2008. The StarCraft 2 Zerg subpage is designed to provide you with accurate information on the Zerg in StarCraft 2. Tell your friends about our StarCraft 2 Zerg subpage.

Zerg have been the least covered so far in Blizzard’s revealing of Starcraft 2. In the game-play video, we saw a nice full-scale battle of Protoss forces clashing with Terrans and showed the usage of many new units/abilities. However, all we have seen of the Zerg are some Mutalisk getting annihilated by Protoss Phoenixes, nothing new since Protoss Corsairs took them out with the same ease in Starcraft 1. We also saw some Zerglings en masse, and then their alternate, or morphed into form, the Banelings.

The Banelings, for those of you who played the original Starcraft, are just like Infested Terran in that they’re filled with corrosive acids and explosive chemicals and absolutely drop everything that lies in their path. They are most likely a high-tier upgrade for the Zergling and I’m sure Blizzard has taken careful consideration into the cost of this unit, because otherwise an army of them could take out an enemy base before they even have time to react. This will definitely be an enjoyable addition to those of you who like Warcraft 3’s Goblin Sappers or the Infested Terran though, because now Zerg players will always have this explosive addition to their arsenal rather than having to wait for the rare occurrence of a captured Terran Command Center.

One last thing noticeable in the video that was new about the Zerg is it seems that their Nydus Canals have been redone into “Nydus Worms”, where they no longer need Zerg “Creep” to be placed upon. Now, these worms can just burrow underground and erupt at any point ambushing the enemy with a horde of Zerg forces. They’ve definitely added many features for both the Protoss (warping in units to anywhere there is pylon power) and now the Zerg (Nydus Worms where there is no Creep). This just furthers the concept that Starcraft 2 is going to be an exceedingly fast paced, intense RTS.
